Fall, glorious fall. Yes, it's a hackneyed phrase, but when you see the last of the fall leaves at photographer's light, just before dusk, especially at
Halfmoon Bay Cabin on Redrooffs, the superlatives do tend to leap to the senses. I had a great al fresco lunch there a couple of weeks ago with owner John Richmond, and we sat on the deck of his family seashore cabin, on the walled in patio with openings where windows would be, watching the storm surge against the beach just feet away, and it was thrilling. I've added a few photos of his place in here. The main log cabin is available for rental by the night or week and even has a grand piano!
And of course we're all waiting to see what happens up on the ridge - Dakota Ridge, that is. There's already been a good dump of snow according to the great
backcountry reports page on Suncoastcentral.com. There's also rumors of new facebook pages for the Tetrahedron Ski Club and Dakota Ridge - check in and ask them to post here too! Everyone's looking forward to a great season of cross country, snowshoeing, snowboarding (check out the cool boards developed for the 'retro-board' crowd at
http://www.mindskis.blogspot.com/ - and with 15km of groomed trail around alpine lakes with almost 360 degree views of coastal mountains and Georgia Strait... wow.
Christmas Craft Fairs are in full swing, judging from driving past various halls on the Coast and seeing shivering, sodden volunteers welcoming the masses. Now I'm not one for 'craftiness' but everyone tells me the Sunshine Coast has above average craft fairs, both in number and in quality. Check out the
full calendar at Bigpacific.com.
