Dear Satan:
Vancouver has been our family’s home for three generations. Two of them legal. I don’t know if the news has reached Hell yet but Vancouver is hosting the Winter Olympics in February. People will be flooding our precious city from all over the globe. Many of them Americans. Americans! I was hoping you could help me out here. Maybe sending a plague of locusts but that’s been done and I know how you hate to repeat yourself. The Americans would probably just eat them anyway. I am despera…

I miss evenings at the Lighthouse Pub tossing back pints of your fine Canadian beer. The following is a humour column I submitted to a newspaper in Salt Lake City. Of course I would rather be writing for a newspaper on the Sunshine Coast but I'd also like a weekend at the Best Western with Megan Fox. I'd even settle for one night with Mariah Carey in an RV. We don't always get what we want. Sad but true.

Dear Satan:
Why can’t there be a state lottery in Utah? I’m tired…

As women, having babies changes our lives in more ways than one, yes we now have precious bundles and we now have a new body shape to dress. Many women I have spoke to (and myself included) have struggled with 'baby fat', the extra pounds we put on during pregnancy that just won't go away. I have found a little secret that I am happy to share, it worked for me and I expect it will work for others as well. I used to avoid mirrors because I didn't like seeing the extra pounds I was carrying. I wen…

Man, oh man. I just got back from two weeks in France where we spent one week sightseeing in Paris, and the second week beach hopping in the French Mediterranean and then winding our way up through Provence.
I had heard for years about french food - the intricacies, the giant salads couples lingered over in sidewalk brasseries - and was fairly licking my lips to try it out when we departed in late June. I was travelling with my partner, Diane, who was 'conferencing' the first week, and my 8 yea…

On Monday, June 29th, the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden Society purchased the 40-acre property located at 5941 Mason Road. This was made possible by the generous donations of individuals and businesses who share the vision of a centre for horticultural learning in our community. These donations formed the down payment, and the Society will now continue to fundraise to pay off the mortgage as quickly as possible. Of the $1.6 million fundraising goal, $321,000 has been raised so far.
Now that t…

I'm off to look for fish eggs this afternoon. Those little leaping smelts actually lay their eggs in gravely sand during a high tide right between the low and high tide lines. The egg survival is greatly assisted by having overhanging trees and shrubs that prevent the eggs from cooking in hot summer sun. This turns out, unfortunately, to be a relatively rare situation since we humans like to chop down the green stuff growing along the waterfront, especially along the pricey "low bank waterfront"…

I'm not making apologies anymore about my lack of blogging frequency. Typically it means that I'm busy enjoying my life so I'll catch up when I can, ok? Geez, I don't know why you have to give me such a hard time! :) Oh right, that's just me giving me a hard time.
I hope you all enjoyed the sun as much as I did this past weekend! It was so healing and warm. One of G. and my favourite things to do on…

Greetings!
That's right. Ever since I (Lorna) moved to Gibsons in January, I've noticed a lack of fun, sexy and curvy clothing options for us ladies so...we opened up a small space in Molly's Lane in Lower Gibsons. When I say small, I mean about 70 well-utilized square feet of bodaciousness. Since I go into the city at least twice a week, I can mix it up regularly and fulfill any special requests within a day or two. If you're on the Sunshine Coast, come say hello to Barb & I this Friday be…

Women gain from taking a more measured approach that is designed to control risk. Dolores Maisonneuve, a 44-year-old investor and founder of the Blue Chip Stockings, a women-only investment club, says: “We aren’t super-aggressive – we invest in blue chips and hold them for a while. We’re interested in buying into this sort of growth rather than trying to turn things over quickly... read more at: http://www.moneywise.co.uk/grow-money/investing/article/2009/04/20/get-some-investment-tips-the-oppos…

Once there was a little boy who had a heart of gold. It was his most prized possession, and often he polished it carefully to make it gleam like the sun. Every day he wore it around his neck in a soft velvet bag to keep it protected, but it was so shiny that one could still see the glow of it through the fabric. The little boy loved his heart of gold, and would show it to every one, every where he went. They were fascinated and told him how beautiful it was, and his parents were proud.
Soon the…
